COMPETITION RULES

CLASSIC PIZZA – TEGLIE PIZZA – PIZZA NAPOLETANA

EVENT

With the Belgium Pizza League, the initiators want to raise the level and image of pizza in Belgium. In addition, this annual competition is intended to teach and inspire everybody who loves pizza. The Belgium Pizza League is organized by Little Italy Forni.

CONTESTANTS

The Belgium Pizza League is open for anyone working in the hospitality or food industry, who is at least 16 years old.  A registered contestant will not be allowed to cooperate in any form with any of the companies sponsoring the event during the competition days and in the area of the event.

The purpose of the contest is to stimulate creativity and inventiveness in putting together a pizza.

REGISTRATION PROCESS

  • Registration for the competitions will be open from 10 am on January 4th and will be valid only if including personal details.
  • The registration fee is:
    – 100 euros for one category
    – 150 for two categories
    – 180 for three categories

It is possible to register as a group of up to 3 and each participate in a category.

  • The registration fee must be transferred immediately after registration.
    Registration is complete as soon as we receive the payment.
  • Contestants must categorically be at the competition area at the day and time of the competition.
  • If you cancel your entry, you will be refunded 50% of the entry fee up to 4 weeks before the race (Sunday 11 February).
  • Registration is possible until one week before the race (Sunday March 3th)

at 10.00 am on the day of the competition at the Little Italy Forni stand to complete the registration process with the confirmation of their personal details and the collection of their race number.

CLOTHING

  • To compete in the event, it is mandatory to wear an appropriate and clean uniform consisting of: hat/bandana, shirt/jacket/t-shirt, kitchen trousers and appropriate footwear. It is also forbidden to wear jewellery, bracelets, rings, or watches.
  • Contestants may wear the uniform of their association or group or of their restaurant, but they may not wear trademarks of any kind or type and logos of companies that are not sponsors of the championship.
  • It will be the responsibility of the judge to verify compliance with the regulations and, in case of any transgressions, to apply the following cumulative penalties:
    1. No hat: – 10 points
    2. Incomplete/dirty uniform: – 10 points
    3. Jewellery/bracelets/watches/rings: – 10 points
  • At the award ceremony, only contestants wearing a pizza maker’s uniform without trademarks of any kind or type will be allowed on stage.

GASTRONOMIC COMPETITION

  • The theme of the gastronomic competitions is “Pizza”.
  • Each contestant must use their own products to prepare their own Pizza.
  • During the competition the organization will provide standard tools (such as pizza shovels, brush, roller, sauce ladle, spatula)
  • An area will be set up for the mixing and storage of dough. Storage of dough will be the sole responsibility of the contestant at all times. The dough mixing area will be open to contestants on competition days from 10 am until the end of the last round of the day, and the day before the first day of the competition from 11 am to 19 pm.
  • Individual meal components should be pre-prepared as much as possible. If necessary, final preparations can be made on site, before the start of the competition.
  • A contest official will ensure that after the competition each contestant diligently remove from the preparation area all his utensils, ingredients and any other belongings and that they thoroughly clean the space used. Those who do not comply with this provision will be disqualified without the possibility of appeal.
  • During the competition, contestants must remain in their assigned position at the ovens and will not be allowed to leave until their pizza is ready.
  • From the moment the judge starts the competition, the pizza maker will prepare a single pizza, bake it, and serve it to the jury on its plate or other support within the maximum time as per category specifications. (see further).
  • If the contestant goes over the expected time for each gastronomic category the following penalties will be applied:
    1. 1 to 60 seconds overtime: – 10 points
    2. 61 to 120 seconds overtime: – 20 points
    3. 121+ seconds overtime: – 30
  • The pizza must be served to the jury directly by the contestants. It will be strictly forbidden to offer small gifts or mementos to the jury, under penalty of disqualification.

CATEGORY SPECIFICATIONS

  1. Classic Pizza:
  • The “Classic Pizza” competition will take place with wood or electric ovens at the choice of the contestant.
  • For this category the maximum competition time is 12 minutes.
  • The pizza will have to have a round shape and be baked in the oven, directly on the refractory pizza stone.
  1. Teglie Pizza:
  • The “Teglie Pizza” competition will take place with electric ovens.
  • For this category the maximum competition time is 30 minute
  1. Pizza Napoletana:
  • The “Pizza Napoletana” competition will take place using wood-fired ovens.
  • For this category the maximum competition time is 10 minutes.

JURY AND SCORES

  • The jury consists of up to four members led by an independent, knowledgeable chairman. The other members of the jury are partly professionals and partly culinary consumers. The verdict of the jury is binding. The jury will judge the entries as follows:
    • Method of preparation on competition floor;
    • Presentation and appearance of the pizza (originality, finish and color combination);
    • Taste bottom;
    • Taste of ingredients;
    • Method of working, paying special attention to hygiene, efficiency and time management;
    • Sustainability (food miles, additives, animal friendliness, etc.);
    • Practical feasibility and degree of duplicability.
    • Manageability;
    • Product knowledge participant (own presentation);
    • Cost price, selling price and calories.
  • Points will be awarded for each of the above mentioned parts.
  • All finalists will receive a named certificate for proven craftsmanship and a goodiebag.
    In addition, there are 4 prizes to be won: one prize per category winner and one prize for the winner across the three categories.
  • The organization reserves the right to make changes to the competition rules at any time. Participants will be notified in advance. The verdict of the jury is binding.

OTHER MATTERS

  • The organization reserves exclusively the advertising and image rights concerning the participants in each competition category for two years, and the unlimited use of photographic material, video or other without charge or obligations for the participants themselves.
  • Pizza not consumed during jury tastings remains available to the contestant. If not consumed by the contestant, it may be made available to the audience for
